Bleak View

The Dark rocks of Suomenlinna are harsh and striking. There is a certain feeling you get looking out over the ocean, whilst balancing on above the waves crashing against the rocks.

Follow The Path

On the far side of the island, there is a little bridge you must cross in order to reach the little rolling hills that lead to the alcove. The path leading to this bridge allows the eye to to follow the path across the image into the distance.

Crossing The Bridge

Behind the bridge is a beautiful old brick wall, and a little doorway. This couple were about to cross the bridge, and being a candid photographer, I decided to capture them crossing the bridge.

The Pinch

This land/ rock formation made me think of a giant pinching the land between the sea, which leads towards the horizon and some local buildings. People that climb the hill at the top look like adventurous specs as they eagerly move to see what is around the cliff.

On The Rocks

I had an awkward and dangerous climb down onto these slippery rocks, that the waves were crashing against, to get this shot. I wanted to get one of the big rocks in the foreground, with the landscape leading up to the fence and then the little structure at the top of the hill. This has become one of my favourite photographs, and I decided to make a print of it.

Capturing The Memory

There is no real reason to explain what is happening in this photograph. There are three things I like that came together. The figure in the foreground, the family taking a selfie on the rocks, and in the far distance the people that are making their way up the hill. Making the most of the moment, and capturing memories are important. This photograph is a reminder to make the most of your time with people you care about.

I used Ilford Delta 400, and had the film processed at Fotoyks in Helsinki, Finland.
